Services
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:
Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.
Surgical Services:
We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology. All patients are carefully screened for safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. All patients under general anesthesia have an IV catheter with IV fluids to maintain cardiovascular support and hydration. Surgical services and facilities include: board certified surgeon available for consultation; fully trained veterinary and technical staff, to ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet; thermal support on water blankets during and after surgery; isofluorane gas anesthesia; advanced sterilization techniques; ECG and oxygen saturation monitors; blood pressure monitors; intensive after surgery care and full in-house blood testing.
Laser Surgical Services:
Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures utilizing a laser. Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures, and are useful for a wide range of conditions, such as elongated soft palate resection, stenotic nares correction, declaw surgery, and toe nail lasing. Laser procedures result in less pain; less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce the risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort.
Anesthesia:
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.
Pain Management:
Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care. We are very proactive in providing comprehensive pain control for both short term and chronic pain needs. If you feel your pet is experiencing pain, let us know so we can create a plan for your pet. Some long term pain medications require routine blood work monitoring. We will discuss blood work monitoring or potential side effects of medications as they pertain to your pet's care.
Radiology Services:
Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Our veterinarians are highly skilled in the technique of evaluating radiographic changes to make a diagnosis. We also have the skills to perform technologically advanced studies such as bullae series films, excretory urograms, cystograms, dental radiographs, and orthopedic studies.
Endoscopy:
High-tech fiber optics permits direct visual examination and biopsies of your pet’s gastrointestinal system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of oral, esophageal, stomach, colon and even upper intestinal tract disease. Foreign objects can also be removed without the need for surgery.
Bronchoscopy:
High-tech fiber optics permits direct visual examination of your pet’s respiratory system. This allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the nasal cavity, trachea and lungs.
Ultrasound:
This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Echocardiograms, abdominal examination, pregnancy evaluation and ultrasound guided biopsies facilitate more efficient and less invasive diagnosis of many disease states.
Ophthalmology Specialty Services:
Dr. Rhea Morgan, DVM, DACVIM, DACVO offers Ophthalmology Specialty Services at Village Veterinary Clinic. Such services include biomicroscopy, indirect funduscopy, tonometry, gonioscopy, puppy eye exams, and CERF exams, electroretinography, ocular ultrasonography, cryotherapy, and ophthalmic surgery. Her hours are by appointment only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and one Saturday per month. Dr. Morgan accepts referrals from other veterinarians. We ask that Ophthalmology clients please use their regular veterinarian for routine health care needs and products.
Dentistry:
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. Dental sealent is applied after all cleanings. Please click on the clinic tour to learn more about our dental services. We offer microchip identification. Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the Home Again microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery. All pets in Knox county taken to the shelter are scanned for a microchip. Every stray animal that comes into the clinic is scanned for a microchip.

We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.

We will receive frozen semen delivered in a dry tank, receive chilled semen and collect fresh semen for insemination. We recommend that all pets that are not show animals or valuable breeding animals be spayed or neutered.
Bathing:
Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our special, cleansing baths remove dirt, debris and pet odor – your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that stop the itching. Let us know if scratching is a problem so a veterinarian can evaluate your pet's skin. Bathing services include nail trim and ear cleaning.

We do not provide routine grooming services as we feel it distracts from our ability to provide high quality medical attention for critically ill patients. Call today and we can recommend groomers. We will provide limited grooming services to special needs patients with underlying medical conditions.

These pets live their owner and each pet is screened for disease before donationso offer plasma transfusions for many conditionsuch as severe pancreatitis, clotting disorders and liver disease. Please call our main telephone number for instructions for after-hour emergencies.
Behavioral Counseling:
Illness doesn't always have a physical cause. Our veterinarians will evaluate behavioral issues to determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen for the client. We schedule 50 minutes for behavioral consultations so we can obtain a thorough history of the problem. If you identify a behavior problem in your pet, call us right away. Once behavior problems persist for months to years behavior patterns can be more difficult to change.
In cases of aggression, we may refer you to a behavior specialist. Knoxville is fortunate to have 1 of only 27 Board Certified Behaviorists in the country.

Owners may be present or elect to not be present during euthanasia. Each family has individual needs.
